On September 30th GVS participated in Orange Shirt Day.  It is a day to come together in the spirit of hope and reconciliation to honour former residential school students whose families and communities have been impacted by the schools.  Leading up to this day we had an assembly to discuss the meaning behind the day and throughout the day students participated in lessons that reflected on the experiences and the impact of the residential schools.  The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools.  It is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.  To learn more, visit https://www.orangeshirtday.org.
